With the harsh weather already showing its ugly face this year, we know that we’re just at the start of the cold season.
The wind, rain, snow and general low temperatures can play havoc with our skin, especially when we come in from the cold outside into the furnaces that are our centrally heated offices, shops and offices.
We’ve come up with some tips to help you keep your skin in the best condition possible this winter, to ensure that you have glowing, healthy skin for Christmas, New Year and beyond.
Check your skin products
Our skin tends to get drier in the colder months, so if you usually use skin products designed for normal skin, you may want to swap them for more caring and nurturing products over the winter.
Moisturise
It is obviously importantly to moisturize your skin on a daily basis, but even more so at this time of year. Treat yourself to some luxurious deep moisturising night cream that will help your skin to repair itself while you sleep. A lighter day cream is essential before you apply your make up.
Moisturisers also make good make-up removers at this time of year as they are much more gentle on the skin than some of the harsh make-up removers on the market.
Exfoliate
Harsh winter weather can lead to dry patches on our skin, so weekly exfoliation is a must. Use a gentle exfoliating face wash and work around any dry patches in small circular movements to get rid of the dead skin.
Remember to tone and moisturise afterwards and allow the newly revealed skin to breath for a while before you apply any make up.
Drink Lots of Water
It’s often difficult to keep up the water consumption that you have during the hotter months, but it is essential that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Water helps to flush toxins out of the skin and help it to retain moisture.
Don’t forget your lips
Unless you always wear lipstick, your lips will be in need of some protection from the harsh winds and freezing temperatures. Keep your lips kissably soft by applying protective lip balm regularly – try to find one that has natural bees wax or shea butter as an ingredient as these are great properties for keeping your lips soft and will help to heal if they become chapped and sore.
Gently exfoliating your lips once or twice a week with a soft bristled toothbrush will help to get rid of any dead skin from chapping
Indulge in a professional facial
Professional facials will help to keep your skin in tip top condition and also advise you best on how to look after your specific skin type during the winter months.
We have a range of different facials treatments to suit all skin types and all budgets, whether you have a specific skin problem you would like address, or simply want to be pampered and have a relaxing facial that can actually help you sleep!
Eat Well
While it’s tempting to tuck into winter warming food, don’t be tempted to scrimp on the fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet. Choose foods that are high in vital skin healing nutrients such as Vitamins, A, C and E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Berries, citrus fruits, avocados, nuts and oily fish will help your skin look and feel great this winter
