Superfoods for Super Skin

We all know that having a good daily routine for our skin is important.  And that regular facials will massively improve any skin complaints and issues we suffer from, but what you put into your body can also have a huge effect on your skin.

We look at some of the best things you can eat, not just for their health benefits, but also for how they will help your skin to glow and feel amazing!

Coconut Oil

coconut

Coconut oil is a vastly underused oil in the UK, but it shouldn’t be.  It cooks better at high temperatures than olive or sunflower oil and has a host of health benefits.   Packed full of nutrients this immune-boosting healthy fat should become part of your staple diet.

Coconut oil can also be applied directly to your skin.  It is great for hydrating really dry skin and works wonders on healing mosquito bites!

Avocado

Many people tend to avoids avocados because of their high fat content, but just like coconut oil – this is exactly the type of fat you should be eating!  It helps to reduce cholesterol and is high in skin loving vitamins such as A, D and E.

Avocados can be mashed up and applied directly to the skin for a hydrating face mask and the oil in avocados helps to relieve itchy rashes and skin complaints.

Berries

Berries contain antioxidants that are great for resisting cancer as well as large quantities of vitamin C – perfect for keeping those coughs and colds at bay and great for helping to keep your skin clear of breakouts.  Starting your day with a mixed berry smoothie will help you feel glowing inside and out.

Whilst it’s great to eat fresh berries in season, you can find most types of berries readily available in the frozen isle which can be added to yoghurts, porridge, desserts and smoothies at any time of the year.

Nuts

Whilst you’re adding your favourite berries to meals, you should also throw in a handful of nuts.  Unsalted nuts such as walnuts, almonds, cashews and hazelnuts are a great source of both calcium and protein – super important if you’re a vegetarian or vegan.

Rich in Vitamin E to promote soft and smooth skin, as well selenium, zinc, iron and potassium, a daily helping of nuts will boost energy levels as well as help you look gorgeous.

Broccoli

Often shunned and passed over for the more fashionable kale, broccoli should be more than a side component of your Sunday dinner!

Skin clearing vitamins such as A, B complex, D, E and K all help this super vegetable to promote healthy skin cells and banish zits.  Just make sure you don’t overcook it!
